I want to thank each & every one of you who took the time to sign, share & broadcast this petition. Within 24 hours we’ve reached our first milestone of 50 000 + signatures ! This is not a political campaign nor is it a religious campaign. This is a JUSTICE Campaign & thats exactly what we set out to achieve. The issue of Capital Punishment (Death Penalty) is a very complex one with compelling arguments on both sides of the spectrum. We are fully aware of the public sentiment regarding the above however there needs to be a strong legal basis for the reinstatement to be considered which our attorneys will interrogate as a secondary & long term initiative.
We are shifting the focus of this campaign from the reinstatement of Capital Punishment to more realistic & immediate solutions. Our primary focus will be looking at Section 51 of South Africa’s Criminal Law Amendment Act of 1997 & calling for a parliamentary enquiry to be launched into the South African Police Services. We will be writing to Minister Bheki Cele, Chief Whip of the ANC, DA, EFF, IFP & ACDP raising the concerns of the community regarding crime in KZN. We are also seeking to work with various stakeholders regarding crime prevention strategies that can be implemented with urgency. We support all peaceful protests & we urge all community members to support the #StandUpForSadia campaign by East Coast Radio & wear Orange on Friday, 1st June 2018 in supporting victims of Gun Violence. We are changing the name of this current campaign to #JusticeForSadia #CitizensAgainstCrime. We ask that you continue to share this campaign with friends & family, we need as many signatures as possible which will be attached with our submissions to parliament. We thank all community members for their overwhelming support.
